John McFaul

Biography

Growing up in Chippewa Falls, John had frequent access to both the Wisconsin and Canadian Northwoods. Research trips have since taken John to 45 of the United States including Alaska, as well as East Africa and Panama for wildlife reference excursions, and urban centers in America and Europe for inspiration from the worlds most renowned masters in museums.

John has lived in Utah and Wyoming granting him the opportunity to know the American West very well, especially Yellowstone, Glacier, and Theodore Roosevelt National Parks as well as Antelope Island State Park. John also lived in Cincinnati OH for over a decade, with the closest designated wilderness area being the Smoky Mountains National Park at 300 highway miles away. Fortunately for John many galleries and retail outlets around the park carried his original paintings and reproductions, so after frequently delivering his works personally he could immerse himself in these tallest of eastern mountains and absorb the unique flora and fauna while hiking its extensive trail system.

Currently John resides in the Northwoods of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. With Lake Superior’s Shores, Ottawa and Chequamegan National Forests, The Porcupine Mountains and Sylvania Wilderness Areas in excellent proximity he considers the area a Wildlife Artist’s Paradise. When at this home base he’s afield to some degree almost daily merging his photography and varied painting style to depict the natural world he’s so passionate about.
