Biography
Montana based bronze sculpture artist Diana McClaran grew up on a small horse ranch in Iowa. Her childhood was surrounded by lots of animals, her mother’s love of art, her father’s love of learning, and lots of doodles that manifested into art. With her move to Montana, Diana discovered bronze foundries and became enamored with the Lost Wax Method of casting bronzes. Diana has worked in the industry learning every process and along the way she became a master patineur for herself and many top artists from New York to California.
With the guidance of many well-known artists, she improved her studies of anatomy, composition and techniques in her sculpting. The challenge of realism is her style of choice and is occasionally blended with some romance and or whimsy, creating a personal attachment with the viewer. Diana finishes her pieces with her own patinas that complement each sculpture. She has worked in bronze foundries for more than 20 years as a patineur. This procedure is the finishing touch to add color to the bronze using various chemicals and a blow torch.
