Ott Jones

Biography

Ott Jones, a professional sculptor for 35 years, has created a diverse collection of wildlife and sporting sculpture. His pieces are known for their strong compositions and subtly colored patinas. Growing up in Spokane, Washington, he has been a wildlife enthusiast and avid outdoorsman since he was a young boy. After attending Washington State University on a tennis scholarship and graduating, he went to Alaska and worked as a fishing guide for three summers and a welders helper in Prudhoe Bay. It was during this period he realized that sculpting was his passion.
Widely collected, Ott is in prominent private and corporate collections around the world. He was recently honored in having Queen Elizabeth acquire his sculpture, Birth of the Labrador. He has participated in numerous juried shows and museum exhibitions throughout the country including Allied Artists of America, National Sculpture Society, SEWE, Society of Animal Artists and Western Visions at the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson, Wyoming.
Over his career, Ott has placed dozens of life-size and monumental sculptures. Perhaps two of his most notable pieces are a fly fisherman and Labrador at Bozeman/Yellowstone Airport and mountain man monument, Jim Bridger, at Bozeman’s Chamber of Commerce. In 2020, he was honored in winning the Gilbert and Marion Roller Sculpture Award at the Allied Artists of America in New York City for his blue heron monument, Queen of the Waterway.
In creating sculpture, he strives to capture the beauty of his subject’s form and essence of their personality while incorporating these qualities into a pleasing design. Through a lifetime of observing ani, it has provided him with firsthand knowledge of living creatures. Ott, his wife Joan of 34 years and their four children make their home in Bozeman, Montana. “I’m so fortunate to call Montana my home. It’s such a great place to raise a family and workas a sculptor”. The abundant wildlife, wilderness and resources, provides me with endless ideas and inspiration”.
