Biography
Mary Jabens is a contemporary landscape artist living in Southern Utah. Ms. Jabens exhibited early in childhood her artistic ability. Her mom bought her paint and lessons when had childhood sickness. The lessons resulted in a lifelong connection with art. Ms. Jabens surroundings are a powerful influence in her ability to create art. She started painting outdoors in Glacier Park and has continued to be an avid plein air /studio artist thereafter. Art is healing for Mary. A health issue later in her life made her re-evaluate what was important in life, art being a priority. Since then, she has focused on learning to let herself speak through her work.
Mary Jabens currently lives in Southern Utah. Her passion for art is fueled by the scenes around her. Marys goal as an artist is to communicate with the viewer the joy she sees in nature. Besides the grand views she also looks closer to subjects and paints what others may not see. Her use of color, texture and brushwork convey the beauty of the landscapes while she endeavors to show the immediacy of the moment. Mary strives to have a Plein Air state of mind when painting in her studio. It has allowed her to hone her artistic skills and focus on replicating the different senses of feeling, sound, smell. This awareness has continued into her studio work bringing the outdoors alive in her work. Artistic influences in her life are always present when painting. The advice and lessons remain as part of her journey as an artist.
