Alison Crary

Biography

Alison loved art as a child, but like so many people life got busy, and there was little time for art for many years. After over a decade of working as an Occupational Therapist, the stress of working home health through the pandemic led her back into art as her own form of therapy. She currently works primarily in oils and is drawn to southwest scenes and subjects.

Spending a lot of time outdoors, Alison is inspired by the light, color, the sense of atmosphere so unique to western landscapes. Her goal is not strict realism but rather to convey the ‘feel’ of a particular place and time; to share the sense of excitement with the viewer that made her want to paint that scene or subject in the first place! When she’s not painting, she can be found gardening, paddling, hiking, or riding her BLM mustangs that she trained.

Alison is a Signature Member of the Arizona Pastel Artists Association, an Associate Member of the Oil Painters of America, and an Associate Member of Women Artists of the West. Her work is displayed at the Sedona Arts Center as well as the Arts Prescott Gallery. She often participates in juried art festivals or plein air events and was invited to be part of the Phippen Museum’s Miniature Masterpieces show in 2026. She’s won a few awards, but her greatest artistic accomplishment is when a piece of her art brings someone joy or encouragement, as that’s her purpose in creating it.
