Ricardo Robles

Biography

Ricardo Robles is a painter whose work bridges traditional Western themes with a cinematic sense of atmosphere and storytelling. Living and working on the edge of the Texas Hill Country in Round Rock, TX, his artistic practice is rooted in deep observation of nature and an emotional connection to the American Southwest. His work focuses on wildlife, solitude, and the spiritual weight of the land.

Originally self-taught and later refined through mentorships and competitive exhibitions, Ricardo has built a reputation as one of the top emerging artists in the West. His work has earned national recognition, including First Place in Wildlife at the International Association of Pastel Societies, and features in Texas Wildlife Magazine, Southwest Art Magazine, San Antonio Voyage Magazine, and Big Bend Artists Magazine.

Ricardo’s influences include classical realist painters, early Western illustrators, and contemporary wildlife artists, but his style is uniquely his own — cinematic, quiet, and deeply focused on light. “When I paint or draw, I am always thinking about modeling — how to make a two-dimensional form come alive. That’s where light comes in. I try to capture the quiet beauty of that transformation.” His process often begins outdoors, where he photographs his subjects during twilight hours the moment he finds most dramatic and revealing.

Ricardo’s paintings have been exhibited in museums and galleries across the U.S., including The Bryan Museum, Austin City Hall, and Round Rock City Hall. He is currently represented by Old Spanish Trail Gallery, North Houston Art Gallery, and Gallery Off the Square.
