Biography
Through each work of art, George Lundeen presents realistic images that eclipse time, genre and culture. There is a quiet beauty in a George Lundeen piece, where style flows into expert design. Observers of his work are captivated by his artfully created figures, which capture human emotions with a universal sense of beauty. He was born and raised in Holdrege, a small town in southwest Nebraska and received a B.A. degree from Hastings College. Two years later he was awarded a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Illinois. His love of education has led him to teach at the University of Illinois, University of Nebraska at Kearney, Texas A & M University, Loveland Academy, and the Scottsdale Artists School. In 1999, he received an honorary degree, Doctor of Humane Letters, from the University of Nebraska.
A Fulbright-Hayes Scholarship sent Lundeen to Florence, Italy, for a year where the works of the old masters inspired his ambition to sculpt. Today, George lives and works at his studio in Loveland, Colorado. Georges works include commissions to create portraits and interpretive works for universities, municipalities, foundations, and corporations such as Nike, Drake University and Denver International Airport.
His work features several historic figures such as Ben Franklin, Davy Crockett, Thomas Jefferson, and Robert Frost. His sculptures can be found in numerous public and private collections throughout the world.
Mr. Lundeen is the recipient of many awards from art organizations, including the Allied Artists of America, the National Academy of Design, and the National Sculpture Society. Public placements include Denver International Airport, Statuary Hall in Washington D.C., Coors Field in Denver, Colorado, the University of Pennsylvania, Benson Sculpture Park in Loveland, Colorado, the University of Illinois, the Colorado State Capitol, the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, the Johnson Space Center in Texas, the Alamo, and many others.
