Biography
The unique and incomparable landscape of the Southwest has been Corey’s muse for as long as she can remember. Growing up in Arizona she spent countless hours exploring its deserts, canyons and forests, and these places with their ever-changing light and color remain her favorite things to paint.
Having been a professional gemstone appraiser for many years, Corey has an affinity for the spectacular colors of the Western landscape. They are pure, clear and crystalline and like gemstones they change along with the light. Corey’s paintings celebrate these ever-changing moments and capture them on canvas for the viewer.
Almost all of Corey’s paintings begin outdoors with the completion of an onsite study in which she records her direct impressions that are then used to create her larger paintings. Corey’s ultimate goal is to provide the viewer a visual journey to those places, where they can sense the sun on their skin, the breeze in their hair, the smell of creosote and the feeling of rocks and sand under their feet.
Corey never tires of the Western landscape, the haunting petroglyphs the shadows racing across the mountains and the clouds dancing in the sky. She lives in beautiful Wickenburg, Arizona with her soulmate, her pack of dogs and the many desert creatures she calls her wild pets.
