Jane Williams

Biography

A passion for art has guided Jane Williams’ choices and interests throughout her life. She is a native Ohioan who enjoys watercolor and oil, drawing her inspiration from the outdoors, whether horses in the Midwest or desert landscapes in the West. A graphic designer and illustrator by trade has given Jane her technical expertise, while figure drawing sessions, workshops and plein air painting have helped hone her skills.

Still life subject matter has intrigued and interested her, focusing on texture, pattern and design. Travel is another inspiration allowing her the opportunity to paint exotic subject matter on location or in her studio from value studies done from photos. She has a love of and finds inspiration and direction from the masters in museums as well as contemporary artists and illustrators.

Jane painted in watercolor for many years and then started exploring oil which gave her the ability to achieve thickness and texture in her paintings. Working on canvases in larger sizes is another benefit with the immediacy of the paint in a space, not behind glass. Jane enjoys the variety that both mediums offer.

Jane has a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree majoring in drawing, painting, and art history from Bowling Green State University. She studied design and illustration at Kendall School of Design in Grand Rapids, MI. Jane has won many awards for her watercolor and oil paintings. She is a signature member of Ohio Watercolor Society, a member of Athena Art Society, Toledo, Ohio and was a member of the former Northwest Ohio Watercolor Society.

Jane and her husband Craig divide their time between Toledo, Ohio and Tucson, Arizona, where they spend their winter months.
