Matthew Richter

Biography

Richter’s representational work reflects a love of color and expressive brushwork inside his emotive portraits of natural spaces. He makes his home in Kansas at the edge of the largest contiguous expanse of native prairie in North America. Richter enjoys frequent painting excursions in Colorado, Wyoming, Arizona, and Utah.

Richter has shown at the Mountain Oyster Club Contemporary Western Art Show and Sale, “Small Works, Great Wonders” at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, 2016; and the Panhandle Plains Museum Western Art Exhibition & Sale 2007-2016. In 2015 and 2013 Richter’s work showed in the Flint Hills Masters Exhibition at the Discovery Center in Manhattan, Kansas. Siemens Wind Energy awarded Richter the “Art of Wind” grand purchase prize in 2011 for his seven-foot oil, “Wings on the Wind” depicting Sandhill Cranes on the vast western grasslands. His paintings have appeared repeatedly in the Oil Painters of America, Western Regional Invitational Exhibition.

He maintains a vigorous exhibition schedule with three private galleries and select National juried exhibitions. Richter’s work has appeared American Art Review, American Artist.
