William Martin

Biography

William Martin took up oil painting in Los Angeles at the age of twenty. Fifty years on, the signature style of his lush oil paintings is a combination of Old Master techniques that have evolved into mature work that is easily recognizable as completely his own. Influenced by the Dutch, Spanish and Italian masters, and the more contemporary techniques of the French and American Impressionist schools, each of his paintings shows finesse and a great depth of understanding. Through decades of painting and passionately portraying the beauty surrounding him, he has honed his abilities as a Master Painter.

Martin possesses the range and ability to paint in diverse styles, portraying and brilliantly interpreting varied subject matter. Still life, portraiture, landscape, and wildlife art are all included in his interests. His current body of work reflects his love of the Western genre, and an affinity and respect for the beauty of Native American crafts often portrayed in his still life paintings. “As I work, I am constantly developing and growing as an artist. My main goal is to portray life, history, and the beauty and emotion of the world that surrounds me.”

William Martin’s work has been shown in Aspen, Beverley Hills, Carmel, Palm Springs, Tucson, and San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and is found in private collections around the world. He is currently exhibiting in Tubac, Arizona; Taos, New Mexico; Cody, Wyoming; and Aspen, Colorado.
