Biography
Born in Chicago in 1952, John C Gawne graduated in 1974 from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in accounting. In the early 90s Gawne left the financial world to pursue a childhood love of art and a passion for the American West. With the support of his wife, Irene, Gawne began taking painting workshops with prominent western artists, including Howard Terpning, Robert Pummill, Joe Beeler, Jim Norton, Gary Carter, as well as landscape painters Ralph Oberg and Matt Smith. And in Chicago, Gawne attended classes at Chicagos Palette & Chisel as well as regular life drawing sessions.
Since the mid 90s Gawne has participated in the following art shows: C M Russell Museum Auction, Buffalo Bill Art Show and Sale, Oil Painters of America National and Regional, Mountain Oyster Club, John Clymer Museum Two Person Exhibition, Brinton Museum Small Works, Calgary Stampede Auction.
Awards include the 2007 CEO Award from the C M Russell Museum and being named as a founding member of The C M Russell Museums Russell Skull Society.
