Western imagery abounds in Barry’s luminous paintings. From his studio in Tucson, AZ, Barry’s paintings reflect the culture and history of the Southwest and Mexico, featuring Native American portraits, dancers, pueblos, and cliff dwellings. The legendary cowboy in action with their trusty steeds, burros, and livestock are also a large part of his repertoire.

Through dynamic and bold techniques, Barry develops a unique and appealing atmosphere in his watercolor and acrylic paintings, inviting the viewer to become an active participant, rather than a passive observer. His palette is a broad one, creating unique, luminous color schemes to capture the ambiance and quintessential spirit of his subjects. His paintings come alive with light and transparency. When asked about his choice of medium, Barry replied, “I like the luminosity of watercolor. That attribute distinguishes watercolor from all other mediums.

He is a signature member and Past President of the Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild as well as a signature member of the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies. His work has appeared at the prestigious Mountain Oyster Club Contemporary Western Art Show and Sale since 1991 and was inducted as an Honorary Artist Member in 2011. His work has also been displayed at Jane Hamilton Fine Art in Tucson, AZ since 2002. A frequent award winner, including several Best in Show awards in Arizona and California shows, his work is part of many private and corporate collections.
